01/12/2011 - feature interview in revolutionart magazine

The new special deluxe edition of the free web art magazing RevolutionART is now up for download.

This issue features an feature interview with Lasse Hoile but more interesting it also features an interview with Pulitzer prize winning photographer Greg Marinovich - who was part of the four combat photographers who captured the final horrific days of Apartheid in South Africa. The group who got the name "The Bang Bang Club" probably made some of the most iconic war images of all time and most likely helped getting the worlds attention on the atrocities that took place there.

There was also a fantastic film made in 2010 about these guys also called "The Bang Bang Club"

30/10/2011 - now selling framed art at lower cost

Due to urgent space problems I'm now selling a bunch of beautiful framed original one-off artworks from past exhibitions at the cost of having them made.

To find out which ones please see my Facebook page here with details about sizes and what framed prints are available.

Please note these are the only ones left and won't be printed again (some got lost in hard disk crash's) They are also very heavy so personal pick up (in Aarhus, Denmark) is the only way to get these.

12/07/2011 - more framed art up for sale

I've added a few more framed and ex-exhibition artworks to this gallery here on Facebook!

Updated 11.07.2011

Some more and smaller images has been added for sale, these are rare one-off glass framed prints from around the start of the 2000 to around 2009. Again, personal pickup also applies for these newly added artworks I'm afraid.

Sending glass framed pictures is simple too expensive and risky.

I'm also still selling these images at the basic cost of having them made which means round around €80 to around €850 (it's crazy I know) ! But I simple don't have the space anymore or anywhere I can store these prints ! They need a good home where they can be taken proper care off.

Remember there are also exclusive none framed prints available though the Burning Shed store...A few left from the Royal Albert Hall exhibition as well !

22/02/2011 - more on sw2 solo album + new pix

A few more note's on the thing from SW :

"Sorry, but Cut Ribbon once again failed to make the cut - although the 12 tracks / 84 minutes of music I've selected for the main release is quite eclectic, it has in common a pretty organic feel, mostly inspired by the darker end of vintage progressive music and some movie soundtrack stuff (Morricone especially). The sound palette is made up of things like strings, choir, woodwinds, mellotron, organ, piano, fender rhodes, jazz drums, and warmer guitar tones, so the shiny metal attack of Cut Ribbon just doesn't fit. But the track is all mixed and finished and sounds good, so I'll find somewhere to release it. Definitely the album will come out on double vinyl too. Love the new Radiohead album! Here's another still from the work in progress films Lasse is working on to include on the blu-ray version of the album."

16/02/2011 - steven wilson solo album 2 tease/update

Words, Epic and Amazing can't justify this new album...the artwork was already started last winter of 2010, never produced so much for anything before but hopefully it all pays off in the end...

Here is what SW says about the new album

"My second solo album is nearing completion. It will be in the form of 2 separate 40 minute albums released in the same 2 CD set, and will also come as a blu-ray with surround mix, high definition stereo and a lot of visual material (Lasse is already working hard on films for many of the songs, attached is a still from one of these we shot a couple of weeks ago to a song called "Index"). We're also planning a special Insurgentes style hard back book edition with a full length bonus CD of additional material. A year in the making, this is without doubt my biggest project to date, perhaps my most ambitious and personal music, and with some phenomenal musicians and performances on it (drummer Nic France in particular is going to blow a lot of people away). We hope a website will launch around April/May to start previewing material, with the album scheduled for September. More soon...."

The always great ToneFloat is now pre-selling a new 180g lush double vinyl edition of Porcupine Tree's siminal album and my first cover I made for these guys - "In Absentia" and even features my lovely face on the cover.

A little side note on IA, this cover was original presented to a crap nameless death metal band who turned it down for $500 (including layout) - luckily they had such bad taste (like so many other metal bands) and it ended on one of my favorite PT albums, the rest is history.

There is also still some very special exhibition quality prints of this image available in the store.

The prints are being offered as 70x70cm but if you don't have room for such a big print you can write me about a possible smaller size. These art prints are limited to 35 in total - when they are gone no more will be printed.

25/04/2008 - UTSA PR Feature story 2008

UTSA PR Feature story 2008

Unique and untouchable. Lasse Hoile, an artist unlike any other, has turned many heads in the past few years. Well known for his personal preference of conveying humanity’s inevitable destruction along with still life, Lasse has managed to top the list of what really and truly is an individual.

Lasse had humble beginnings working as an editor and producing short films in 1993. Five years later in 1998, Lasse decided to take up photography only as a hobby and pastime. The hobby grew into a passion and it is here Lasse “started doing art seriously”. Though having only started serious work a few years ago, Lasse has wasted absolutely no time in creating several documentaries, commercials, music videos (with bands such as Opeth and Porcupine Tree), live show projections, short films, feature films, art installations, animation, grading, and post productions/compositions to name a few. Influenced by melancholic music, Francis Bacon, David Lynch, and Andrei Tarkovsky, Lasse continues to convey though his artwork, the world through his eyes and as he sees it with a modern twist. Unlike many artists, Lasse’s drive to complete many of his works revolve around the “raw” and the “realness” in everyday life; things that are often overlooked, unnoticed, and under appreciated. Many of Lasse’s photographs, such as “Patient II” and “Girl in a Box” often depict, but are in no way limited to, anger, loneliness, melancholia, or emotional struggle of everyday events. His use of grain, distortion, color/tone variations, and noise usage set the mood for his photographs which draw in and eventually place his viewers in the sane setting.

What distinguishes Lasse from many artists, is his connectedness with reality. “Mail Order Babies” (a photograph that depicts new born babies placed next to one another; side by side in boxes)  is meant to convey "…the western arrogance way of getting kids. It seems nowadays one can almost design their 'dream' child through genetic preference or adoption" according to the artist himself. Though ridiculed every now and again for some of his controversial productions and artwork, Lasse still refuses to sugarcoat “truth” such as nature itself, along the instinctive behavior and beauty of human beings. Instead Lasse continues to sip his coffee un-phased.

As stated before, Lasse has also been widely recognized for directing videos and creating a number of album sleeves for Porcupine Tree since the release of In Absentia in 2002. Later in 2005, Lasse was able to direct and edit the recording of Porcupine Tree's first live performance DVD, Arriving Somewhere... which took place at Park West, Chicago. Lasse has also directed Porcupine Tree's music video entitled “Fear of a Blank Planet”. The video has been viewed over 700,000 times on to youtube.com and uploaded repetitively by loyal fans who want to get the word out. Furthermore, Lasse has recently finished the music videos for Opeth’s latest album “Watershed”.

In newer projects, Lasse Hoile will also be directing and filming a documentary entitled Insurgentes. Insurgentes is a musical road film which follows the making of Steven Wilson's solo record which also shares the same title. Insurgentes is an “in motion” portrait of an increasingly rare artist who composes and creates music along with media out of love; not for the fame and fortune; an artist persisting in making art on his own terms in a chaotic world where the "throw away" mentality is increasingly becoming the norm and prevalent more and more each day.

Insurgentes is also about music and the album as art form; applying the same aesthetic vision through various writings, performance, production, artwork, lyrics, videos, and beyond.  The film digs deep into the underlying issues of creating, packaging, and marketing music in an era where iPods, Mp3's and download culture are changing, morphing, and eroding perceptions of what and how exactly an album is supposed to sound and appear.

However, the film is still in production but is scheduled for completion in Spring 2009 for screening at various film festivals next Summer. In addition to the special edition DVD version of the album "Insurgentes", is an 18 minute extract.

With the revision of this website, Lasse has now decided to sell his artwork in attempts to share his art with others around the world. Giving other people too the opportunity to see what he sees, and feel what he feels.
